When I came across this original WWII chocolate D Bar Ration I was intrigued. There’s a ton of history out there on these! Rations had to be light weight, easy to carry, durable, and full of energy. The D Bar created by Hershey filled the bill! Made from chocolate, sugar, cocoa butter, milk and oat flour they packed an enerry wallop. I don't know how many were made but this is one of the few originals I've seen. Note it's not from Hershey, but made by Cracker Jack!

As an Army Brat and a Boy Scout in the 1950's, we kids generally looked forward to getting these. Easy to carry and they really did keep you from slowing down.

A fellow in our living history group was making these up from an original recipe, along with repro boxes, some years ago. Got to try one. Reminiscint of the chocolate oatmeal bars my sisters made back in the 1960s...

My dad was 15 living on a Southern Holland 501PIR drop zone in WW2.

The troopers had rock hard Hershey's chocolate bars that could be devided 3 ways.

Dad said they were impossible to share between 4 people as they were impossible to break into 4ths.
