anton67 Posted February 18, 2018 Share #1 Posted February 18, 2018 I picked this up at a thrift store believe it or not for $10. It looks to me to be an authentic poster mounted to a piece of wood. I would like to know whether you think it is an authentic poster or a repro. Second, any other info would be greatly appreciated.

Mr.Jerry Posted February 18, 2018 Share #6 Posted February 18, 2018 impossible to tell from the pics, you need to look with a loupe at the printing style. That being said, my first thought is "could be". But age fakers have been working their tragic magic for years. But for $10, I would have risked it. doyler Posted February 18, 2018 Share #7 Posted February 18, 2018 The Navy also put out one in the late 70s or 80s in this style as well. They were giving them out at our High School and library.
anton67 Posted February 18, 2018 Author Share #8 Posted February 18, 2018 Thanks for the help so far. What am I looking for with the loupe? My gut is that it IS in fact very old. I dont think it is the repro from the 70s because that one had numbers on the bottom right of the print. This one has no numbers. Also the board and chain that it is mounted on is a home made job. Again tends to go toward authentic. All that said, it certainly could be a repro made to look old for a bar or Applebees. Like you said, for $10 . . . The repros go for more than that. Also, either way it will display nice.
anton67 Posted February 18, 2018 Author Share #9 Posted February 18, 2018 The re-issue of the poster has this at the bottom right corner. My poster does not.

jguy1986 Posted February 19, 2018 Share #15 Posted February 19, 2018 That's a modern printing technique, or at least since the 1950's. Original WWI lithography would have solid colors under a loupe.
anton67 Posted February 19, 2018 Author Share #16 Posted February 19, 2018 Thank you. I wonder how it ended up like this. Maybe an Applebee's repro. Or similar establishment.
fstop61 Posted February 19, 2018 Share #17 Posted February 19, 2018 Even if it was an original, the board mounting left it somewhat worthless to poster collectors.
anton67 Posted February 20, 2018 Author Share #18 Posted February 20, 2018 I agree. I figured for $10 it looks cool and would make a nice display. I just wanted to know either way whether original vs repro.
