Can't post any pictures because my phone won't resize them small enough. Will post some when I get home. Helmet has an unrecognized red unit insignia painted on the front. Painted over white stripe in the back. Is named in white paint on the inside edge. Has a fantastic period netting.

Trying to find the unit of Robert B. Hanson service number O-568274. Or the first two numbers are 66 or 65.

Any help would be great.

I got a little bored today and read up on stripping paint off of M1 helmets. This is the result. Sure better then it was. I think most of the unit insignia, 2nd LT bar and leader stripe was chipped away before it was repainted. I think it is the 86th division.

Very interesting! I dont recall seeing an 86th infantry painted helmet in the past. Does anyone have other examples? Im not familiar with this unit.
