MECHINF-A15 Posted February 11, 2018 Share #1 Posted February 11, 2018 Shown is a small grouping of photos taken by a member of 1st AR soon after unit creation. Sadly there are not dates or captions. First up, M2A4 light tank. Note that painted on the turret is the pennant from their former unit, Company B, 1st Cav. Regiment.

MECHINF-A15 Posted February 11, 2018 Author Share #3 Posted February 11, 2018 Light tanks lined up. Notice that the tank in the foreground has dummy guns mounted on the turret. This was a new one for me!
MECHINF-A15 Posted February 11, 2018 Author Share #4 Posted February 11, 2018 Three crewman pose in front of their tank. Coveralls are the uniform of the day. The soldier in the center (vehicle commander?) wears the early "Doughnut" tanker's helmet from padded ring.

MECHINF-A15 Posted February 11, 2018 Author Share #6 Posted February 11, 2018 Nice close-up of the front of a vehicle and driver. I interpret the markings as B (Company , 1 (1st AR), 4 (tank #4) Thoughts and comments are more than welcome.

Lsparks Posted February 11, 2018 Share #15 Posted February 11, 2018 The Peep in #10 is a Willy’s MA. The two jeeps in the foreground of post #12 are both first series Ford GP’s. All three preceded the standardize MB & GPW respectively. Early Stewies. Nice photos! The first GP The Pigmy was delivered for testing 23 Nov 1940. vonmoen Posted February 12, 2018 Share #17 Posted February 12, 2018 I love the pre-War photos, thanks for posting them. I think the Tank with the dummy barrel could be a radio command track.
MECHINF-A15 Posted February 12, 2018 Author Share #18 Posted February 12, 2018 Thanks vonmoen, I recall that at one time you were looking for early photos of Ft. Knox. I believe I have quite a few from this batch that I'll post along with the vehicle and tank photos. As for post #3 I believe you are "on target" about the radio command tank. All the best, Mike
