Found this the other day at my FILs and about the only thing I can match it up with is a BAR cleaning tool is that what this is? It doesn't have "US" stamped anywhere that I can find but I can't imagine him gathering something like this up other than when he was in the service (WW2).

Can anyone confirm what it is?

Yes, it is a BAR tool. It is referred to as the "Chamber Cleaning Brush, M1".

Here is a later version of the same tool.

Keep looking. Maybe he left the BAR up in the attic. ^_^

Union made other items for the war effort as well. The early hacksaw frame in the General Mechanic’s Tool Set is typically seen as a Union.

Great BAR tool!

Thanks for the info Lsparks. Have several old hacksaw frames in the various tool boxes of my FILs will keep my eye's open for other Union items. Being a SeaBee I would assume he would have had access to several of those type tools. Will look up the General Mechanic's Tool Set and see what all was in it, Might find another "gem" or two on his work bench.

Thanks again!

Go over to G503.com. Look under the Vehicles Accessories section and the G503 Tools and Equipment forum. More info on WWII handtools than you will care to read. I’m “lt.luke” on that site.

You likely do have some gems. Are his toolboxes small with two lengthwise flaps for a top that fold open along the edges? They had heavy round stock twin handles?

I haven't seen a toolbox like you described but that really doesn't mean much. My FIL rest his soul was a boardline hoarder and there are some piles I haven't got dug thru yet. :)

Thanks for the heads up will check out g503

Yep still sorting thru tools. I know he had a mid 50's Willeys so..... Most of the tools we have found a pre-WW2 though. So far the only tools I have found that I can say for sure being WW2 is one wrench, a hacksaw, and a pair of crescent wrenches are probably.

Though under his work bench I did find a US stamped horse brush (minus the strap and undated) so who know what will be found next.
