pzjgr Posted February 5, 2018 Share #1 Posted February 5, 2018 Had a great day at the Flea Market Saturday, picked up this canteen... Canteen is nothing special, 1945 dated....but the cover caught my eye. I know 1941 dated canteens are like a Holy Grail, what about 1941 dated covers? Cover is in great shape, small cut on bottom, and the right side stud was re-inforced... Cup is a new one on me too, simply marked "US" on handle, and that is it, no other marks...any ideas on what the deal is with it? Now if I can find a 1941 canteen to put in it! Gregory Posted February 5, 2018 Share #6 Posted February 5, 2018 ...what about 1941 dated covers? Not so rare. Your specimen is interesting because it has 8 stitching lines.
Ronnie Posted February 5, 2018 Share #7 Posted February 5, 2018 I like 41 dated covers but they’re are plenty around. Yours is nice. Ronnie
General Colt Posted February 5, 2018 Share #8 Posted February 5, 2018 As far as I know, some 1941 covers can be rare, but Baker Lockwood ones seem to be the most common of them all. Cups are not so rare either. As Gregory said, the 8 stitching lines are odd. They also look pretty uneven, as if the cover was placed crooked in the sewing machine... 'Flage Guy Posted February 5, 2018 Share #9 Posted February 5, 2018 Your Cover is unique in that it was cut to the early M1910 pattern with the body seam at the rear center. Below are a couple of B.L. '41 Covers, one made in the early specs and the other with the more common (for that year) side seam. A few of the early type Covers were made at Jeffersonville as late as 1942.

jprostak Posted February 5, 2018 Share #18 Posted February 5, 2018 Why does the cup only have 2 rivets? Rounded Ears? It's not a WWI or Pre WWI Cup.
Leopold Posted February 5, 2018 Share #19 Posted February 5, 2018 The US stamp on the handle is also uncommon!
Cap Camouflage Pattern I Posted February 5, 2018 Share #20 Posted February 5, 2018 Fairly common, not super expensive like the canteens. I sold a good condition baker lockwood 1941 for like $35 a year or more ago.
