SDC Posted January 31, 2018 Share #1 Posted January 31, 2018 I bought one of the Revell 1:32 Corsair models discussed below. I understand Revell paints are not available in retail stores here in the U.S. so pulled up a Model Masters/ Testors conversion chart. However I cannot find any of the colors in local shops to include Michaels and Hobby Lobby. Any suggestions for other retail or online options to try? Rakkasan187 Posted January 31, 2018 Share #3 Posted January 31, 2018 Do you have a model train shop in town???, they usually also carry models and other supplies.. Leigh
Old Marine Posted January 31, 2018 Share #4 Posted January 31, 2018 There are very few real hobby shops anymore and chain craft stores usually don't carry a good selection of model paints. Your best bet is shopping online. Hobbylinc or Michigan Toy Soldier Company both have a big selection of paints.

earlymb Posted February 16, 2018 Share #7 Posted February 16, 2018 There are several good brands of model paints available and the conversion charts are for the most common like Tamiya, Gunze, Vallejo, Humbrol etc. You have to take care when you mix paints of different brands though, as they often based on different mediums. You can usually apply acrylics over fully cured enamels, but the other way around may damage the acrylic undercoat. Some acrylics are alcohol-based (like Tamiya) while others are water-based (like Vallejo) and these usually can't be mixed to form another shade or color. Some are good for brushing but less suitable for airbrush or vice versa, while other are good for both. Almost all brands have a range of related products that are designed to go with their paints, such as primer, thinners, brush cleaner, putty etc. What brand you use is personal preference, and if you just stick to that brand you'll know for sure you can mix and apply several coats without worry. My brand of choice is Vallejo; because they have a huge selection of shades but mostly because it is water-based and as such avoids strong chemical odors while thinning is done with (demineralised) water and cleaning my brushes and airbrush in tap water. Specialized model- and train stores will usually have a good selection, but you could check if there is modeller's/train show near you, or just order online.
