In august we made a trip to normandy and i purchased this liner ( Westinghouse ) at the Big Red One Assault museum.

Its obvious a navy issue coming directly from the sea ( omaha beach sector ) it was cleaned up by the owner of the museum but it still has the lovely salt/sea smell from omaha beach

Easy Red beach sector

Liner picture took when we were at Utah beach ( La Madeleine )

Better pictures i made today where you can see the whole liner.

Note the blue/gray shades of paint still left on the outside.

Inside of the Westinghouse Jump liner.

As you can see, the green paint has fades a bit from the metal.

the outside was repainted , i removed it and the name ' Ralph ' appeared on the front of the liner. Sorry but no pictures of it (yet?).

New addition to my collection :

A Rubber version of the BAR rifle .

The details are perfect and i couldnt wish for better.

It's originally a movie prop from Band of Brothers, so its perfect for my future 4th ID impression!

Love the helmets. I remember going to Sunny's Surplus in the 60s with my Dad. They had bought up alot og war surplus from the government and opened up stores on the east coast. They would have big wooden bins filled with helmets, canteens, shovels etc, to include WW2 german mess tins, bayonets etc. In the early 70s I remember going across the street from my school - they would gave full tables of VN jungles- $5/shirt complete w/patches.

Thanks for sharing.

Jeff

That 506th helmet is amazing! Do you go hunting for these artifacts or do you find them at local sales? You've truly got a great collection!

I have certain contacts in the Ardennes who keep me updated about helmets that go up for sale , from private collections. So its kinda lucky to know such people, i only buy them from collections.

I could go ask every farmer in the ardennes if they got anything left from the war but thats a lot of farms to track down .

Here is a preciew of my upcoming reenactment project for Normandy 2009 and many other happenings we will attend.

22nd Inf reg , 4th inf div.
Bar gunner

This is far from complete, and the original stuff will be replaced at one point by reproduction stuff.

Please add corrections or some hints to make this a nice outfit !

Nice setup man, i say use the original stuff, but just for like a 'living history' type of display, and take it very easy. Just really shows off what they wore and carried back then, and it WAS there. If you're going into the field etc, and know it's going to be rough, repro for sure.

Yeah i agree, but we gonna use it for work-in-the-field :D We'll also do some displays just to show how it was...but the thing is , the reproduction stuff of today S*cks bigtime, the haversack and canteencover are just awfully ugly http://www.usmilitar...tyle_emoticons/default/pinch.gif

But this weekend ill take the set out for the first time and ill try to get some pictures to post on this forum.

Thanks Blake and IVY !
