fordmustanggt_350 Posted January 22, 2018 Share #1 Posted January 22, 2018 This is not mine. I wanted to see what your thoughts were on this. I have never seen or heard of a double patched 91st Division uniform like this. I do not see why there would be any need for this as the 91st was in the 5th Army. Thoughts? https://www.ebay.com/itm/WW2-WWII-US-U-S-Dress-Uniform-5th-Division-91st-Division-Wool-Original-Coat/322968118095?hash=item4b3266634f:g:IWkAAOSwEaBaOp7F
Paul70 Posted January 22, 2018 Share #2 Posted January 22, 2018 I had an AAF Officer tell me he had three unit patches. Two on right sleeve and one on the left. I did not see the coat, but a friend did. Weird things do happen. Would like to see photographic evidence to feel confident in it. I have a GT 350 as well. patches Posted January 22, 2018 Share #3 Posted January 22, 2018 With something like this one would expect to see a ruptured duck discharge patch on it, like this was something done on the spur of the moment by a gong home soldier, there being a connection with 5th Army and the 91st Division, other insignia as well now that we're thinking OS Bars perhaps in example. ScottG Posted January 22, 2018 Share #4 Posted January 22, 2018 I have an officers 5th Army uniform from a AAA Captain. His battalion served an extended period under the 36th Division and are a part of the 36th history in their museum in Texas. So, maybe this is a similar situation where the 5th Army soldier felt a stronger attachment or pride in the time he spent attached to the 91st? I also have a 13th Armored group where the 573rd AAA had the 13th Armored ssi included in their dui, but they are not a 13th Armored unit. Scott. KurtA Posted January 22, 2018 Share #5 Posted January 22, 2018 Almost anything is possible, including this patch combo. However............ I wouldn't buy such a thing from an Ebay militaria dealer (unless I knew him and the jacket had credible provenance).
doyler Posted January 22, 2018 Share #6 Posted January 22, 2018 Lots of odd combos of insignias can be found especially within the Italian theatre. The 5th Army was the parent or command unit for many of the divisions in Italy. You often see Ranger scrolls from the 1st, 3rd a 4th battalions worn over the 5th.Have seen the scroll of a 4th Ranger worn over the 34th division as well and you see them at times worn over the Force patch due to many going to units after the demise of the battalions in Italy. Some veterans wore a 3rd unit patch on the lower cuff and there is a recent topic on it. If on ebay It wouldn't bother me as if it is purchased and then recieved and something didnt click all the boxes they have the ebay no hassle super duper blue light return, guarantee your happiness policy. So trusted dealer or just grandma selling out of the basement should not be a concern.I also wouldn't think as its shown it would bring a whole lot of money.
