MasonK Posted January 19, 2018 Share #1 Posted January 19, 2018 Hi All, I plan on picking up these WWI USMC dog tags today, named to Joseph H. Reminger. Researched the vet, and everything checks out. Muster rolls and other documents show him enlisting June 15th, 1918 and Serial # matches up - 4607588. Muster Rolls show him with 78 Co, 6th Reg. He was stateside up until October 1918, when he was transferred to 78 Co, in Châtillon France. Given the time line of the 6th, would it be safe to say he participated in the Battle of Blanc Mont Ridge and the Meuse-Argonne Offensive? There was no muster roll for him for November 1918. He's next found in the December 1918 roll (no info, other than being with the 78th), and the January 1919 roll has him still with the 78th, but now in Germany (occupation duty). He remained overseas until July 1919, where he was transferred stateside to Quantico for discharge. Are WWI USMC records at the archives fairly extensive? Thanks in advance! warguy Posted January 19, 2018 Share #3 Posted January 19, 2018 His records will likely contain a copy of his honorable disCharge and these WWI documents very often list the engagements the Marine participated in. Given the transport time to get to France and the fact Mont Blanc occurrred October 4th, a day or two before and after, I suspect he wasnt involved. Perhaps more likely he took part in the push to the Muesebstarting Novemar 1. Good luck, Kevin
katieony Posted January 19, 2018 Share #4 Posted January 19, 2018 The top image of the Muster Roll indicates that he transferred to the 2nd Division on October 13, 1918 thus he would have missed Blanc Mont.
