Jacket looks good...nice hide and condition

patch looks to have been sewn on another jacket...based on exposed stitch holes...and name tag looks to be newly sewn on...

Definitely some repairs but huge size!

Name tag looks suspiciously new and shiny the way that picture looks

Price is right could be good?!

That size just might off set the damage as far as price is concerned.

One of the things I consider when making such a purchase is; how easy will it be to get my money back if needed?.

The repair in the collar is going to turn off some collectors, as well as any oiling or other repairs.

The name tag has that very white thread and oiling both concern me.

I love the rank insignia and the decal has good presence.

I would suspect that they want less than 1,000 ?

This is a very nice jacket in that size

It appears, due to the color/finish to be one of the redyed jackets that were re-issued late in the war

This is confirmed by the presence of the decal

These jackets continued to be issued and are seen right up to the Korean war

I agree, the name plate looks new, much too new for the jacket

All in all very desirable in that size

Personally; even with the large size, restorations like this REALLY bug me. Why do people do that? I especially have a bias against treated leather, which may be the case with this jacket. The very dark name tape may indicate this. All in all, I would wait for a better example...my two cents.

I don't think what you're seeing is "treated leather" but the military re-dying and reissuing program

the natural and original finish for this jacket was covered over in 1944-45 before the jacket was re-issued and that's what you're seeing

It was really pretty common, in fact the Steve McQueen jacket in the great escape is one of those,

It's part of the jacket's history and at anything less than 1000.00 it's a great deal as a wearer

  • 2 months later...

So what did it sell for and who got it? One of our VLJ guys had a similarly repaired liner in an A-2 that was sold around a bit but I don't think this is it. If it is it would have been mucked with a lot since.
