Bluehawk Posted January 13, 2018 Share #1 Posted January 13, 2018 I offer these two WWII 78rpm record albums free to anyone interested, for the cost of shipping ($20 or less USPS?). I've had them a long time, and would like them to go to someone who would preserve them. First PM or "I'll take it" gets them. The containers are not in mint condition, obviously, but the record discs are near perfect, quite playable (though very fragile hard plastic). "on a note of triumph" has 6 records in the album "Winged Victory" has 2 records in the album
Bluehawk Posted January 16, 2018 Author Share #2 Posted January 16, 2018 Thinking it might help in coming to a decision whether someone might find these documents worth having, I list here more information: "on a note of triumph" is (as mentioned above) a 6 record set, which consists of 12 CBS Broadcasting radio network narratives commemorating V-E Day and the long fight against Fascism, by Martin Gabel, Norman Corwin and composer Bernard Herrmann, with a supporting cast and original score, manufactured by Columbia Masterworks. The broadcast from Hollywood became so popular in 1945 that it was eventually put into book form by Simon and Schuster. The broadcast was only repeated, twice - on 8 and 13 May 1945. "Winged Victory" is a 2 record set produced by Decca black label records, featuring the Winged Victory Chorus and Orchestra as selections from a play of the same title written and directed by Moss Hart, commemorating the United States Army Air Forces during WWII. The track titles are: "Winged Victory" "My Dream Book of Memories" "Whiffenpoof Song" "The Army Air Corps" Not many of us still own a record player capable of playing a true 78rpm disc. However, as genuine artifacts of that period 73 years ago, these are valuable and scarce in private collections.
Bluehawk Posted January 18, 2018 Author Share #3 Posted January 18, 2018 Thanks for all the views... I'll wait another week or so, and then just donate them to the Palm Springs Air Museum library if nobody here wants them. They've got a very nice WWII collection of ephemera, a great group of volunteers (mostly veterans), good visitor traffic and plenty of funding.
