Tonomachi Posted January 11, 2018 Share #1 Posted January 11, 2018 I picked this up at an insignia show that everybody else seems to have missed as it was still for sale midway through the show. I was told it came out of the San Francisco Bay area. The photo measures approximately 7" x 11" and was taken at the Wolk Studios in Chicago. Unfortunately there was no name however I have been going over what seems like hundreds of photographs of FSSF members on the FSSF Association website ( http://www.firstspecialserviceforce.net/ ) and I think I found a match. I believe this individual is identified as Tec. Sgt. C. B. Liberty of the FSSF Service Company. The hairstyle and hairline matches but can't be sure about the ears. The paratrooper wing with one ribbon below it also matches. What does everybody else think? I went through the roster and was not able to obtain a full name only the last name and initials. doyler Posted January 11, 2018 Share #3 Posted January 11, 2018 Great photo Could be him. The Force ID photo shows a higher rank on uniform but lists his rank but lists his rank on photo board as TECH/SGT. Often wondered if they wore their own uniform for photos or had to share a uniform. KurtA Posted January 11, 2018 Share #4 Posted January 11, 2018 I think it's the guy. There is a 2 rank difference (i.e., Tech Sgt in mug shot vs. 2 rank lower Tech 4 in the portrait). But the fact they're both tech ranks is good. And the American Defense ribbon in both photos is a good sign too, as many guys wouldn't be from pre Dec 7th '41 service entry dates. Nice find! R Michael Posted January 18, 2018 Share #8 Posted January 18, 2018 I don't think it is the same person. the hair style is the same but look at the widows peaks and they are not the same. The ear showing does not have an out thrust on the portrait like the ID photo has. Just my observations. Either way it is a great photo! manayunkman Posted January 18, 2018 Share #9 Posted January 18, 2018 It's not the same person. I'm with Mike on the ear. But the head is the wrong shape too. Your guy has a more round head. The eye brows are different as well. Great photo.
Tonomachi Posted February 5, 2018 Author Share #10 Posted February 5, 2018 A forum member (Tim Novak) who is the current curator of those black and white photographs on the FSSF Association website ( http://www.firstspec...rviceforce.net/ ) was nice enough to go though his photographs and find the correct matching solider for this studio photograph. The solider is Pvt. William F. Carpenter with the 3rd Regiment, 5th Company. I also found a group photograph on the Internet with another photograph of William Carpenter who is on the far right in the middle. Many thanks to Tim Novak.
