This is a detail from a photo taken outside a large home or city building in Germany.

I wondered if anyone might decipher the marking on the vehicles. My hope is to ID the unit as I have a number of photos taken by the same photographer within the town.

The unit markings are for the VI corps (sixth corps) 117th reconnaissance (IE the 117th Cavalry reconnaissance squadron) with the other side being the troop assignment (A, B, C etc) and the vehicle number in the order of march.

During WWII the independent cavalry reconnaissance squadrons (not attached to a division permanently) were attached to the corps which is why the higher HQ is VI corps

My sincere thanks to both of you!

It will certainly increase the interest in the photo now that the unit is identified.
