Here is what I put together. I salvaged a couple 36"x 60" double locking door bulletin boards from a company I had worked for. I needed more depth than just one could provide so I took the cork backing  off one and stacked it on top of another that I took the doors off of and fastened them together. I covered the cork backing with  a burlap that I acquired at a local fabric shop. After mounting to the wall I drilled holes in the cork backing to accept 1/8" round metal rod stock cut to the length needed  to support each individual knife. These rods were then covered with clear flexible plastic tubing cut to the appropriate length.  Finished by installing a LED light ribbon around the interior top and sides.

Nice project.Another idea would be to use magnets to hold the knives in place.

Thanks Lance, Patchcollector. Magnets never even crossed my mind. Wonder if anyone has tried this method and if so what is their evaluation. Pros cons?

Very imaginative use of these cases, and certainly well displayed blades!  Jack

Nice display. It shows the knives very elegantly.

I must say that the magnet idea has me thinking. Hmmmmmm...

I guess a magnet strong enough to hold a knife might require some wiggling to get the knife loose again, and thus can possibly scratch it? But you could put a patch of muslin cloth between the magnet and knife.

Thanks again to all. These bulletin boards are rather pricey to purchase new, and I probably would not have done so. I could`nt pass up the opportunity to get my hands on as many as I could be for the plant was demolished. In addition to the two I used for the display I managed to obtain several more of the two door boards as well as one three door and a couple single door models. It pains me to know that at least 20 if not more came down with the building. Just fortunate I was able to get what I got.

The display cases look great but I'd love to also see some shots of the knives. It looks like you have some really interesting blades.
