Bench Posted December 30, 2017 Share #1 Posted December 30, 2017 Hi Fellas, I just found this site recently. While cleaning the basement I found this bayonet that I bought 55 years ago. Is it something I should make a display for, or would it be worth anything to sombody? I will post more pics in a bit.
Bench Posted December 30, 2017 Author Share #2 Posted December 30, 2017 I don't know how I got double pics on here, but I did.
huntssurplus Posted December 30, 2017 Share #3 Posted December 30, 2017 Looks like an M1905 bayonet to me. I don't know a lot about bayonets but the M1905 bayonet was used on the M1903 Springfield rifle during WW1 I believe. Hunt
Misfit 45 Posted December 30, 2017 Share #4 Posted December 30, 2017 Hi, You have a Model 1905 bayonet with a WWII scabbard. The date is likely around 1919 (the date is on the other side of the blade). The way it sits, it would be worth between $250-325. Very nice. MT247 Posted December 30, 2017 Share #5 Posted December 30, 2017 Looks like a 16” M1905 bayonet with a M3 scabbard. In 1943 they shortened these to 10” and had a plastic handle. I think a lot of people would be interested in this but would also make a great early WW2 display. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Bench Posted December 30, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted December 30, 2017 I couldn't fit all 4 photos in one post, so there are 2 more to see. Topic says, More pics, I believe.
Jumpin Jack Posted December 30, 2017 Share #7 Posted December 30, 2017 However, it was carried over to use during WWII as indicated by the scabbard. It is a very nice specimen! If you are still a collector, and this would fit into your collection, I would recommend keeping it for display. If not, there are those that would be very happy to have it in their collection, myself included. Happy New Year. Jack
huntssurplus Posted December 30, 2017 Share #8 Posted December 30, 2017 Here is a link to the other pictures: http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/302947-more-pics/ There is a 1919 date it seems but a USN Mk1 Scabbard. Bench Posted December 30, 2017 Author Share #9 Posted December 30, 2017 Thanks a bunch guys all the info was great to hear. I am not a collector and it is the only piece I have and have had it since I was just a kid so if some one would like to have it for your collection I would be willing to let it go. Like I said it has been in my possession for at least 55 years.
