Hi,

just thought I'd share two press photos from March 1962 I recently purchased. I'm guessing this would be the rarest official award given to military flyer and is still with the Glenn's family or maybe a museum? I can't have the original award but original 1962 photos are nice.........

Cheers, John

Wow, that is cool, great photo. The caption on the first photo states that he's wearing astronaut wings on his left pocket flap too.

Seems like this is the video of the ceremony at which your photos were taken:

Wow, that is really a neat piece. I have never seen one before, and probably will never see one in person!!

I thought this was cool too. A Project Mercury Friendship 7 lapel pin.

Cool! Two of my most favorite areas of interest, space and military, rolled into one!

THat is interesting.I always thought it was a lot smaller and worn on a civilian coat as a lapel pin.The one on his uniform is very large.

Here is some information from the very first reference book I had, not a lot back then.
It describes the badge. Not sure if it was really made of platinum.Posted ImagePosted Image
