mikedon Posted December 20, 2017 Share #3 Posted December 20, 2017 That is a fantastic knife and a VERY hard variation to find. Yours is one of the best I have seen. Mine is not near that nice. It took me forever just to find the one. You should be very proud of that knife.

paulvanderworp Posted December 20, 2017 Share #10 Posted December 20, 2017 Is this a mk2, and only pal marked?
mikedon Posted December 20, 2017 Share #11 Posted December 20, 2017 Yes. It looks like the service markings on the opposite side of the blade were removed before the blade was Parkerized on mine. See Silvey WWII page 28.

mikedon Posted December 20, 2017 Share #13 Posted December 20, 2017 I have a similar knife marked (RH - PAL - 37) on one side and nothing on the other side. The knife has an aluminum MARK 1 pommel like the OP knife.

danww2 Posted December 22, 2017 Share #18 Posted December 22, 2017 Hi folks, Until I recently started having some sort of primal urge to start seriously begin collecting U..S. Military knives of WW2, I was unschooled on the amazing variations encountered! Just when I thought I KNEW something about Mk 2's, once again I'm pleasantly surprised to see another type I never knew had existed. And that's the fun part of collecting! That PAL is beyond beautiful, and a very worthy piece of military wartime history. Congratulations on your acquisition! Best to you and yours. doyler Posted December 23, 2017 Share #21 Posted December 23, 2017 I have seen refereance made to these being assembled from parts after the war..hence the removal of the USMS etc.Does Bill have any further info? Thanks RD
SKIPH Posted December 23, 2017 Share #22 Posted December 23, 2017 Ron- Mike Silvey wrote an article that stated he believed PAL made them from left over parts post WW2 (Military Knives, A Reference). It makes sense to me. SKIP

SKIPH Posted December 23, 2017 Share #25 Posted December 23, 2017 Giles-The knives are suspected of being made, post WW2 from spare parts, but the information is not conclusive. We have to keep researching to verify. SKIP
