thecandyman0838 Posted December 20, 2017 Share #1 Posted December 20, 2017 Hello I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this is a proper ww2 era KaBar? The knife has no USMC stamp, only KA-BAR. Would this knife have been issued to a marine or a sailor? If I am correct, knives with peened pommels were only produced during World war 2. Thank you for your time. thorin6 Posted December 20, 2017 Share #2 Posted December 20, 2017 Can you post pictures of the opposite side of the blade, where the USMC would normally be found. This appears to be WWII, but the one I have, with the circular peened pommel and not marked USMC or USN MK2 on the blade, have KA-BAR over OLEAN, NY. Yours is missing the OLEAN, NY that I think was common to these earlier Kabars, so I wonder if yours hasn't had the USMC removed.

Here is the best picture of the ricasso the seller has posted. It is listed as a type-6 Mk 2.
Charlie Flick Posted December 20, 2017 Share #4 Posted December 20, 2017 Yes, that is indeed a WW2 production KA-BAR. See this link for more info on these blades. http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/510-single-side-markings-ka-bar/ Regards, Charlie
usmce4 Posted December 22, 2017 Share #5 Posted December 22, 2017 According to Ivan Hafley's cataloging, the knife pictured is correct. 2nd Generation (round peened tang) KA-BARS WERE produced with the so-called "late blade stamping" (Olean NY Omitted) in the "Blank Blade" variety in two versions - regular handle and Wasp Waist handle. Both with bonderized blades. It would take someone with a better eye than mine to tell which handle this one is as it appears very thin - apparently shrunken considerably in the last 75 or so years. Attached is a picture of this knife with the Wasp Waist Hope this helps, Art
