huntssurplus Posted December 18, 2017 Share #3 Posted December 18, 2017 Any idea of an era for the bag--like a date or something? I can run the name through ancestry.com and see if anything comes up but a time period to lookout for would be useful. Hunt
patches Posted December 18, 2017 Share #4 Posted December 18, 2017 Tempted to say something related to the 506th Inf, but as we know a few units used the spade symbol.
General Colt Posted December 18, 2017 Share #5 Posted December 18, 2017 Yeah, maybe a post-2001 piece of art from that one person that has seen BOB so many times they can recite every line episode 1-10. I got a feeling that someone just ruined a nice officer's duffle bag with a E/506 spade. Just fan art that someone put on something OD green. Fixbayonets! Posted December 18, 2017 Share #6 Posted December 18, 2017 Here it is on a footlocker that belongs to a grouping I own. He served stateside with the 9th Infantry Division and later overseas with the 9th Air Force. I can do some digging into the group later and let you know the exact units. Der Finn Posted December 18, 2017 Author Share #8 Posted December 18, 2017 Wow! Thanks for all the help and suggestions, gentlemen. For what it's worth: the bag is dated 1943 and was just bought at an estate sale along the Connecticut shore...
Moonlight Gecko Posted December 18, 2017 Share #9 Posted December 18, 2017 Looks like a similar marking to my musette bag. The marking is a Preparation for Overseas Movement (POM) marking for a 9th AAF unit. http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/300168-wwii-mussette-bag-with-pom-markings/&do=findComment&comment=2411728
