Bluehawk Posted December 14, 2017 Share #1 Posted December 14, 2017 Top row, far left Bottom row, far left
Old Marine Posted December 14, 2017 Share #2 Posted December 14, 2017 Any chance that is a faded Coast Guard Good Conduct Ribbon? The other one looks like a very faded WWII Victory.
trenchfoot Posted December 14, 2017 Share #3 Posted December 14, 2017 Yes bottom row is a faded ww2 victory ribbon.
Bluehawk Posted December 14, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted December 14, 2017 Concur bottom row far left, WWII victory Top row far left, USCG GCM, wrong order of precedence, but maybe?
Bluehawk Posted December 14, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted December 14, 2017 Top row far left, extremely faded Navy Cross?
Bluehawk Posted December 14, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted December 14, 2017 No record of a Thomas H. (Howard?) Carpenter receiving Navy Cross
Old Marine Posted December 14, 2017 Share #7 Posted December 14, 2017 Despite the order of precedence, the fading of the red in the center of the WWII Victory looks similar to the fading in the top left ribbon, which I still think is the USCG GC. Bluehawk Posted December 14, 2017 Author Share #8 Posted December 14, 2017 And, any number of reasons how it got put in that order of precedence too! Despite the order of precedence, the fading of the red in the center of the WWII Victory looks similar to the fading in the top left ribbon, which I still think is the USCG GC. Old Marine Posted December 14, 2017 Share #9 Posted December 14, 2017 However that was printed, it looks like the red pigment really faded, you can see the red is almost gone in the Am Def, ATO and PTO ribbons. You're right there are any number of reasons the order of precedence could be off.
Bluehawk Posted December 14, 2017 Author Share #10 Posted December 14, 2017 Add to that, based on many years of experience with museum works of art, RED, is THE most fugitive color of them all! Red will fade faster and farther than any other pigment over time and exposure to any kind of UV light (e.g. sun).
