doughboy Posted December 14, 2017 Share #1 Posted December 14, 2017 Hi, I saw a lot of 503rd PIR patches on ebay the last few month and every patch was different in manufacturig. Now,I'm really confused about the one that I have. What are your thoughts on this one here - good or bad ? ocsfollowme Posted December 14, 2017 Share #2 Posted December 14, 2017 I am personally not a fan for a bunch of reasons. Out of the many PIR patches this could be the easiest to reproduce so I will pass on giving the tell alls. Study this with both known variations and you can pick out what is right and wrong. mortaydc60 Posted December 14, 2017 Share #3 Posted December 14, 2017 This is supposed to be the English made version but is a repro and a well made repro from the front except for the parachute canopy which is not shaped correctly and not filled in as densely as it should. The back at first looks OK with the cheesecloth but the stitching is not correct should be more black stitching.
phillock Posted December 15, 2017 Share #4 Posted December 15, 2017 Hi all My question to the forum is, could this be a 50's made for collectors /veteran patch? The patch is US schiffli embroidered on felt, cheese cloth, which discounts English made WWII era. That we do know. Could the patch be a "Boots" or another manufacturer impression from late 40's -50's era for veterans? re below from Roy Paris catalogue supplement edition c1946. Note this is not the one pictured in the first post, more to show a manufacturer selling an early 503rd PIR. Please check out this thread regarding 503rd/509. http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/288246-503rd-patch-picture-help/?hl=%2B503rd+%2Bpir Phill
doyler Posted December 15, 2017 Share #5 Posted December 15, 2017 Someone just paid $325 for this one ...figured it would have been discussed on the forum No expert but looks like(to me) an Andrew Butler fake from England.

ocsfollowme Posted December 15, 2017 Share #8 Posted December 15, 2017 Doyler, the seller of the one from #5 of the 50 year collection liquidation has some stellar patches, but along with this one and a few others....I too, also believe there are some Butler pieces mixed in. ocsfollowme Posted December 15, 2017 Share #9 Posted December 15, 2017 Here is another one that I would consider a Butler from the same seller. Even old collections can get reproductions in there...life before the internet. https://www.ebay.com/itm/WW2-WWii-U-S-ARMY-PATCH-ORIGINAL-541st-Parachute-Infantry-Regiment/192391726112?hash=item2ccb70c420:g:0bwAAOSwYxBaK2jV
