nchistory Posted December 11, 2017 Share #1 Posted December 11, 2017 Any ideas? My father was a jet fighter pilot and instructor in the USAF in the 1950's. This patch was with his stuff, not sure if his. 6" X 3"'s My Dad served 1953-60. The jet resembles a Douglass Stiletto 3, experimental. What squadron, what's the patch used for?? Year?? ocsfollowme Posted December 11, 2017 Share #6 Posted December 11, 2017 We all can acquire lots of things in our time of service. I traded patches with friends. From what you briefly stated the insignia makes sense for your father to belong in that unit. Maybe you can get his military records through a NARA search. You can ask the good folks at "Golden Arrow" to help you at a nominal fee to really pin down your fathers records. The Air Force is out of my wheelhouse of knowledge but Eric's website is a good authority on school patches.
ocsfollowme Posted December 11, 2017 Share #7 Posted December 11, 2017 I checked another great resource http://gallery.usafpatches.com and could not find the insignia. I am sure by midnight our USAF guru's will chime in.

Randy Posted December 11, 2017 Share #9 Posted December 11, 2017 I was the one Eric got the ID from. That's what it was per a guy that was an IP there. The usafpatches site had not been updated for several years. Myself and a few others have been working on another at usmilitarypatches.com It's still under construction, but has over 25,000 USAF patches on it already, just go into the USAF gallery. You do not have to register to look around. Randy
