A couple of really hard-to-find gems.

So that Depot stamp goes further back than I thought it did!

Question for robinb: I have a similar canteen cover I picked up a few years ago. Mine has the same EGA snaps but is marked USMC Phila Depot 1914. My question is about the placement of the hanger strap on the cover itself, mine is a resewn replacement hanger about a 1/3 of the way down from the top.  I looked in Equipping the Corps, and on p.80-81 it shows the same marked and dated cover with the hanger strap in about the same location as mine. Is this correct for this year cover? Page 82 shows what they say is a slightly later cover such as yours with the hanger strap moved up to the top. If so, when was the hanger moved higher up as on your cover? The actual hanger on my cover is brass, not steel, which I know is incorrect and the cover has several small repairs to the body in addition the the hanger strap. I guess I should make this a separate post so as not to distract from yours, but I couldn't help asking. I can re-post this as a new topic if you want me to. Thank you.

I haven't seen enough dated covers to know when the hanger was moved higher up on the cover. And by the way, that canteen on page 80-81 is my canteen.

Thank you.  I've gotten various opinions on the hanger location, most say they were all up high but now I know that information is incorrect.  There was never a hanger strap sewn in another location on mine since there aren't any other thread holes or strap "footprints" on it. You have some exceptional pieces in your collection! Thanks again.
