pancho in Bastogne?

hi to all

 

i am going to do a reenactment in Bastogne for the battle of the Bulge in 12 days i was wondering if the GI's of the 9th armored were wearing panchos during the battle

That's Ponchos :D

 

Sure, GIs no matter what unit they were in in the winter of 1944-45 had their Ponchos on them, but be advised, don't think they would of really worn them that much, maybe if it was rainy and sleety, as the weather in the beginning of December was like that. If anything they were used more for covering foxhole etc etc. So in short, if you want, wear it.

Ponchos would have been very recent issue at that time,

 

I would look to see what others from the 9th Armored were wearing, my guess is that it was probably raincoats rather than ponchos but I haven't studied the photos

 

Some units had ponchos as early as September of 44 but not every unit received them.
