I believe this to be a set of machine embroidered army colonels wings dating to WWII. I’m not sure if they were issue or private purchase. They have a cheesecloth backing. Any comments are appreciated!

I'd agree 1940's. A huge quantity of embroidered cotton on twill insignia like this was made back in the 40's, but not commonly used/worn (e.g., officer rank insignia, officer branch insignia and AAF wings). Theater-made cloth officer rank insignia (especially CBI) on shirt's/jackets is frequently encountered, but not so much US-made insignia. The exception being all the put-together uniforms on Ebay - fakers love these because they're easy to find and cheap.
