usaaf93 Posted November 17, 2017 Share #1 Posted November 17, 2017 Hello I know the pictures are not pretty (they are not mine). What kind of 50 cal was supposed to be inside ? Thanks
silverplate Posted November 17, 2017 Share #2 Posted November 17, 2017 That box contained .50 caliber Tracer rounds designated "Cartridge, Headlight, Cal. .50, T1E1". The bullet was loaded with a trace mixture that was 3 times as bright as a standard M1 Tracer round. It gave a red trace to a distance of 550 yards, and had a red tip. During 1943-1944, over seven million rounds were manufactured by Lake City Ordnance Plant and Frankford Arsenal. Combat reports were favorable for this round so production continued into 1945. usaaf93 Posted November 18, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted November 18, 2017 Is it one like this ? Thanks
silverplate Posted November 18, 2017 Share #5 Posted November 18, 2017 That is the correct carton. However, the label was most likely just buff-colored, with nomenclature similar to the label shown here.
