P-40Warhawk Posted November 17, 2017 Share #1 Posted November 17, 2017 I'm trying to figure out whose autograph this is, but I can't make heads or tails of the last name, and I enlisted an extra set of eyes and they couldn't read it either, thus I am turning to the forum to see if anyone can read it. I found one possible match, but after staring at the last name I was less sure than I was to start with. I've tried to make the image clearer to aid in identification. The only solid clue I have is that it was from the 1960s (unless it was signed later).

P-40Warhawk Posted November 17, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted November 17, 2017 Thanks! I can see that as an 'L' now on the second initial. I don't know if it is the same one that I looked up then, since his wiki page says he started service in 1966, and this is on a 1961 dated first day cover commemorating naval aviation. kfields Posted November 17, 2017 Share #6 Posted November 17, 2017 I think the last name starts with an "R". Also the VADM I think stands for vice admiral so you would be looking for an older fellow.
lettow Posted November 17, 2017 Share #7 Posted November 17, 2017 There are no admirals listed in the 1960 register who would be a match for this signature whether you assume the last name begins with R or B. Can you post the entire item?

aznation Posted November 17, 2017 Share #9 Posted November 17, 2017 Vice Admiral Frederic Bardshar. A nice example of his signature. Vice Admiral Frederic Abshire Bardshar (20 October 1915 – 13 September 1993) was an American World War II air ace, who later became Commander of United States Navy Task Force 77 and Carrier Division Five during the Vietnam War. https://www.ebay.com/itm/WWII-Ace-Pilot-Vice-Admiral-Frederic-Bardshar-Signed-Index-Card-/141978315521 http://valor.militarytimes.com/recipient.php?recipientid=55224 I found the signature doing a google image search for => collection of United States Navy Vice Admiral signatures
