Jennings Lane Posted November 12, 2017 Share #1 Posted November 12, 2017 Indian War era helmet eagle? Authentic? I see a wide variety of these eagles. Is this the 1881 helmet eagle? Authentic?
KurtA Posted November 12, 2017 Share #2 Posted November 12, 2017 Yes. Looks fine. It's an enlisted "staff" plate (i.e., not Inf, Cav or Artillery). Probably had some sort of branch insignia on the shield (based on the two small holes). Could have been a number, but more likely branch insignia (e.g. medical, signal corps, etc)
TheMariner Posted November 12, 2017 Share #3 Posted November 12, 2017 Yes it is authentic in my opinion but one must always remember they are a dime a dozen! Many of them came from Bannerman surplus stock and you are lucky to move them for $30, I have seen them go as low as $10 each!

Redlegwolf Posted December 28, 2017 Share #5 Posted December 28, 2017 ...staff plates are definitely not a dime a dozen, and I'd buy all of them at $30 each you can find. Nice find -- staff front plates are among the rarest ones to come across these days. 100 percent authentic.
