Just to add

The Reynolds ball point pen was introduced for sale in the US In 1945 and there where limited quantities. Popularity was very very high for these.

The names are in ball point pen so I could 100% guarantee this GI was not waiting in line at Sears or JC pennys lining up for a pen before going off to the ETO or the PTO late 45.

Well I won,t be swimming across the pond. Usually when a soldier was KIA ,His helmet was put in for reuse.in piles of packs canteens helmets rifles.ETC... Nothing was wasted. I have seen photos on IWO showing these piles of helmets and packs ,So if you lost your helmet you went back and picked one up.

Hi faked KIA USMC Purple Heart was floating around a few years ago, I tried hard to track this family down to no avail. He was a communication guy with 2/8 and was awarded for his communication work by the famed Marine officer Jim Crowe on Tarawa on Red Beach Two.
