P-59A Posted November 9, 2017 Share #1 Posted November 9, 2017 I picked up this early WW2 ruck sack. It has no makers mark, date and is missing the frame. What is the proper frame? Will the next type ruck frame work? It is named to Pvt. Gren Toto s/n 33100705. A check of the s/n comes back to Guerino A. Toto. Born 1918 from Philly. Toto enlisted 17Sep41 and he passed away on 23Nov04. His obit said nothing about his service. Can any thing be made of the -2 after his name? It is marked that way inside and outside of the pack. Also can anything be made of the 1-E-3 below his name on the outside flap?
phantomfixer Posted November 9, 2017 Share #2 Posted November 9, 2017 I think any of the mountain frames will work...wood, wire or tube....thinking it most likely had the wire frame... I have a few extra if neededhere is a good referencehttp://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/1742-mountain-rucksacks-all-models/
P-59A Posted November 9, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted November 9, 2017 I have a welded steel tube frame like that seen in the middle of the group of three in the other post. I gotta dig it out and see if it fits.

'Flage Guy Posted November 10, 2017 Share #6 Posted November 10, 2017 The 1942 tubular frame will not mate up with these early ones. Below is the rack and webbing you need for your Pack.

'Flage Guy Posted November 11, 2017 Share #8 Posted November 11, 2017 Very often, the stamps on these are hard to make out. Below are a "Meese, Inc. 1941" and a "Baker-Lockwood Mfg. Co. 1941"- both very faint.
P-59A Posted November 12, 2017 Author Share #9 Posted November 12, 2017 Got it, I can make out 1941. Thanks!
'Flage Guy Posted November 12, 2017 Share #10 Posted November 12, 2017 My pleasure. Every now and then, one of these shows up...don't know how many were turned out in that year, but likely not many because of the major revision that was made then.
