Soviet Afghanka from Grenada, 1983

I picked up this neat piece on a table at a big flea market last weekend....it was really cheap...

It is a Soviet "Afghanka" hat, with blank buttons, so I assume it is a contract piece meant for foreign units, in this case, likely Cuban...

Picked it up to look at it, and noticed the writing...SP 4 Singleton, 82nd Airborne, Grenada 83....fairly faint at this point....definitely had to have it, I don't see a lot of war booty from Grenada....

Really great item! This is indeed one of the "export" models with the blank buttons. These type hats, along with the "export" uniforms, have been found in Grenada, Nicaragua, and other African nations. Basically, the export uniforms were given as aid to fledgling Marxist countries or the various Marxist liberation organizations by countries like the Soviet Union.

Very rare and desirable piece.

Thanks for the comments, and verification of my supposition of it being an export model...

I was really happy to find it, felt bad that it was sitting essentially on a junk table.
