Again, BIG thanks to the forum member who hooked me who with this gem

As you may glean from my avatar- I am a big fan of the 65th Infantry Division- My grandpa was a rifleman in the 261st, it was also the unit that came through my Grandmothers hometown in Lower Bavaria in 1945, and she recalled the very "kind" treatment of the troops as they cam through

Material to the 65th is tough to find- owning to its short lifespan (activated Aug 43, inactivated Augu 45) and its short, but intense 55 day combat run as a follow-on Division in the late winter, early spring of 45.

This Group belonged to PFC Roy Heatherly of La Follette, TN. He served with Co A, 260th infantry Regiment. Like a lot of 65th guys, he wound up being transferred to the 9th ID for occupation duty after the 65th was inactivated.

He was very proud of his service, as his obituary lists in detail his service with the 260th and 65th

The jacket has a couple of neat touches like the divisional lapel DUIs, sewn ribbon bar with embroidered stars, and the coolest- he used a 1938 dated Tunisian coin as the backing disk for the US collar brass!

Very cool. I have a very similar looking ribbon bar with sewn campaign stars, was never able to definitively nail down which theater it was made in

Dan,

I have been involved with the 65th Association since I was a young kid. Have you been involved by chance?
