1950 Newspaper Article-9th Air Force Airman

While doing some research on the local newspaper on line archives I found this brief article & photo of an Airman wearing a 9th Air Force shoulder insignia.The article came from the Palm Beach Posted dated December 31, 1950. Sorry for the quality, but you know how old black & white newspaper archives can be.

The article reads: Cpl. William C. Harris has returned to Pope Air Force Base, Fort Bragg, NC, after spending the holidays, with his mother, Mrs. Curtis D. Clement and Mr. Clement, 934 Paseo Andorra. Corporal Harris is attached to the 933rd Signal Battalion.

The USAF had battalions in 1951? That's news to me.
