M1Thompsonlover Posted October 28, 2017 Share #1 Posted October 28, 2017 My father went into the service after the war in 1946 and ended up on Iwo Jima in the 604th Grave Registry Company. I have some photos of his and can't identify the patch on his shirt. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am working on a shadow box for his military service. Thanks!! tredhed2 Posted October 28, 2017 Share #2 Posted October 28, 2017 While reseaching this for you, I found the PDF which refers to overseas orders for Tarawa and other islands in 1946. The orders came from US Army Forces, Middle Pacific. The US Army Forces, Pacific Ocean Areas was redesignated US Army Forces, Middle Pacific 1 July 45. Here is the patch for both units. It appears that the background of the disc and the red arrow are most distinguishable in your photo and the patch was sewn on incorrectly.
