SDC Posted October 24, 2017 Share #1 Posted October 24, 2017 Still working my way up the learning curve on these. Is the linked listing a modern reproduction or a valid WWII-ish knife? Thanks https://www.ebay.com/i/232527144396
Catfishcraig Posted October 24, 2017 Share #2 Posted October 24, 2017 Not WWII but a reproduction. Thick/deep cut lettering as well as thick pinned pummel (not shown on this Knife) are the giveaways.
jw517 Posted October 24, 2017 Share #3 Posted October 24, 2017 The black spacers are a clue also. Looks like the guard was bent to look like a WWII knife?
mikedon Posted October 24, 2017 Share #4 Posted October 24, 2017 Modern reproduction. In summary NO WWII KA-BAR MARK 2 knife had:-3/8" half pinned pommel-black spacer at guard and pommel-deep struck markings-embossed eagle, globe and anchor marking on the leather sheath See Frank's site: http://www.usmilitaryknives.com/ka-bar.htm
DRE66 Posted October 24, 2017 Share #5 Posted October 24, 2017 On top of everything already mentioned, it has the black baked-on coating, not parkerized.
sactroop Posted October 25, 2017 Share #6 Posted October 25, 2017 My observations are that at less than $30 including shipping. The seller had no intent to deceive. In the add a key word is "style". Many new to collecting will talk themselves into an item being something it really isn't being presented as. But that's part of what we're here for, so keep asking questions before hitting the buy button.
SDC Posted October 25, 2017 Author Share #7 Posted October 25, 2017 Thanks, I was skeptical of a few of these issues (sheath, enamel and lettering) but have learned a few more to look for. Thanks again.
jw517 Posted October 25, 2017 Share #8 Posted October 25, 2017 The whole listing is in a "Honest style".
