72psb Posted October 23, 2017 Share #1 Posted October 23, 2017 John was my second cousin. He was an engineer/top turret gunner on a B-17.He flew with the 15th AF,348th Sqdn,99th BG out of Foggia.Italy. He and his crew were shot down on 24 July 44. He along with others evaded capture for 3 months, finally captured at a border crossing. He spent the rest of the war in captivity at Stalug Luft III.He was also part of the Mooseburg march. John was a great husband and father and was active, playing golf at the Villages well into his 90's. He passed last week at the age of 94.Still fighting all the way.RIP, the hills of WVa are calling. sundance Posted October 28, 2017 Share #2 Posted October 28, 2017 Sounds like a great man. One of many that heard the call and put it all on the line. May he rest in peace.
