Hi,
I was offered this 03 Springfield for $550.00.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
It was manufactured by Springfield Armory serial no. 1027376.
The rifle obviously went through a rebuild and the barrel is marked SA 6-27.
The muzzle gauges a 4 and is kind of frosty.
Not a perfect rifle by any means.
Comes with sling and oiler shown.

Unfortunately the bore is the most detracting part of the rifle.

Here is my gauge and the bullet test.

Lands and grooves not the strongest as you can see.

Bullet test.

The stock appears to be original.

Comes with sling which appears original and oiler.

Thoughts on price - $550 or should I pass?

If this rifle was in excellent condition it would probably bring $800. - $1,000. Consider also that the sling alone is well worth $50. You can judge from there. If you are buying for yourself, only you can be the judge. Jack

I have never seen an 03 around here for that cheap, or even an 03A3 for that matter. Always 650+ for 03A3s, around 800+ for an 03. If the rifling are there but frosty, it would make a nice shooter I think.

  • 4 weeks later...

The stock is from a Remington M1903A3, you can still see the "FJA' acceptance mark over stamped RA-P for Raritan Arsenal. It has the small Remington proof "P", and ordnance acceptance stamp on the forend.

Probably a Greek Army return sold through the CMP a few years ago. $550 is not really bad.

It is a Greek return and that price isn't bad. A friend who is a big collector advised me that anything under $650 is a excellent price for these Greek returns. In firing condition of course.

The price sounds good to me. Aren't 03's the ones that had questionable receiver hardening on low numbered rifles? I don't know what the cutoff was for "low" numbers.
