Bearmon Posted October 20, 2017 Share #1 Posted October 20, 2017 I purchased this as I think it is neat looking and also because I sometimes like trying to figure out an unknown patch. When I first saw it I thought it was a S&R or an ASW squadron, now I am thinking it may be an Iceberg Hunter squadron I think what I originally thought were clouds may actually be Iceland and Greenland or the Maritimes coast and Greenland It is a nice Japanese manufactured patch about 3.5 inches around All thoughts and suggestions are welcome, thanks for looking
MastersMate Posted October 20, 2017 Share #2 Posted October 20, 2017 The International Ice Patrol is the operation currently operated by the Coast Guard. It has been nearly continuous since the sinking of the Titanic. After WW2 CG long range aircraft have been a main part of the operation, with ship patrolling the area SE of Newfoundland and the Grand Banks May be a place to start to look for different patch variations.. Salvage Sailor Posted October 20, 2017 Share #3 Posted October 20, 2017 Wild Guess, VP-7? January 1959: The squadron conducted a split deployment to Naval Station Rota, Spain, and NAS Keflavik, Iceland. During the deployment in the North Atlantic excellent photographs were taken of a Soviet Zulu-class submarine located off the coast of Iceland. The photos were released to the international press. Decal from my collection, the "7" on the tail reminded me of VP-
