Although I don't collect WWI items, when I found out this helmet belonged to a fellow Californian, I couldn't pass on it. I'd say it was a pretty early helmet, since the first few months of m1917 helmet production were pretty chaotic with regard to marking the helmets, and especially so with ZA.
