John4022 Posted October 18, 2017 Share #1 Posted October 18, 2017 I picked up a lot on eBay that had this pair of jump wings. I was wondering if anyone could help me determine the theater of manufacture? Could it be Italian made? Thanks for looking

triplecanopy Posted October 18, 2017 Share #4 Posted October 18, 2017 Interesting. I've never seen any wings quite like these. Somewhere I read that Cpt. William Yarborough authorized some parachute jump wings to be made in Italy. If that soldier in the photo served in a unit in Italy, this may be an example. I would like some of the other collectors to weigh in on these. Very unusual. Thanks for posting.
John4022 Posted October 18, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted October 18, 2017 With the grouping there was some Italian and Greek money so maybe this could be a clue to its origin. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
CNY Militaria Posted October 18, 2017 Share #6 Posted October 18, 2017 I used to have a group from a paratrooper that served in Italy and Greece and there was a wing identical to this on the uniform. I thought it was Italian made.

Tonomachi Posted October 19, 2017 Share #8 Posted October 19, 2017 Nice pick up! I have seen this paratrooper wing on a theater made bullion 517th PIR oval as well as a theater made white bordered on blue oval that others have identified as 509th PIR. It is made by the same folks who made the theater made 509th PIR 3rd Zouaves pocket badge. So I believe everyone is correct in thinking that this was made in Italy during the war. There is another variant that is very close except you can see the reverse imprint on the back of the wing.
