OK, so I just found out something that is really cool to me.

A while back I posted a grouping of a ARCOM wtih "V" device I found in Oregon. One of the forum members mentioned the ribbon bar could have been in-country made. Neat, I thought, but didn't pay any more attention. So I found ANOTHER ribbon bar on my outing on Sunday. This one really did look in-country made, so I got the other one out and compared them.

The Oregon found bar had a 66-67 banner on the ribbon and the Sunday found one had a 67-68 banner. I had never paid attention and thought they were the standard "60- " version. Just makes this hobby even greater when you learn something new!

OK, so are they "in-country" made? AND what other banner years were produced? I looked on ebay and saw a "54- ", but don't know if that was for the French.

I think the earliest "tour" bars I've seen are from 1964 and the latest from 1972, but the little tailor shops around the bases had whatever you wanted. The "1949-1954" bar for the medal ("49-54" on the ribbon bar) was for Vietnamese troops who served in that era.

A Vietnamese service members bar. This one is really cool! With an American Bronze Star with "V" device at the end. Neat to see Foreign bars with American medals. This one is for 25 years of service. With '49 - 54' and '60 - , bars

Capt.Confederacy

The ribbon rack on the left looks all theater-made. The one on the right looks like theater made with the exception of the National Defense Medal ribbon bar. That one looks like US made.

Sure looks like that to me. I don't think it supposed to the American Defense medal. If that were the case then I you would've had The theater ribbons (American, Pacific and/or European-African) on the bar. It is interesting having the China Service on an predominately "Army" ribbon bar (ARCOM & GC). Oh if it could only talk.

The medal was awarded for operations in China and vessels in support of operations in China through 1957. The Secretary if the Navy has discretion to award the medal to other than Naval Forces so its possible service in the theater prior to the VN campaign might have made him eligible

Those ribbons are really cool! I've been collecting Viet Nam stuff for decades and never seen anything but "60-" devices on Viet Nam Campaign ribbons or medals.

Thank you. I have a medal with a large ribbon with, I think, 1967.

I will have the ribbon groups that were posted of mine in the Post next weekend at the Akron Military show. If anyone is interested in them, let me know. Thanks, Dave
