I saw this on Craigslist and thought it was absolutely beautiful. Thought I would share on the forum. It's not my listing by the way. I'd love to have it but too expensive for me.

Here's the description given by the seller:

1907 to 1909 "Trip of the Great White Fleet" Hand stitched in silk a very beautiful framed piece in the original frame. This item is over 100 years old with still bright colors. Every stitch is done to perfection. The eye of the eagle is glass with the portrait of the sailor at the top and the bottom has the ship. This is from the Great White Fleet of Teddy Roosevelt on it's around the world cruise. The sailor was on the Supply Ship USAT DIX which is pictured at the bottom. This large framed remembrance work of art is 27 ½ inches by 34 inches. Price is $1000 Appraised at $3800

This is a very nice piece. More commonly referred to as a Remembrance Scroll, these were popular with troops in the Orient in this time period. I have a Marine Corps one where the Marine was in the Legation Guard 1907-1909 that is very similar. I also have a period piece with just the eagle and E Pluribus Unum banner that came out of a local estate sale. In both of mine, the eagle is almost identical. This piece here in that beautiful frame and in this condition (bright colors, no fading or tears, etc.) is a decent deal in my opinion. I think the appraised value is way high and not realistic, but the asking price is decent and one would be hard pressed to find another for this price. The Navy ones don't usually sell for as much as the Marine ones of this time period, but still....They are beautiful and impressive works of art and make an attractive display in the war room if you have the wall space. Thank you for your input warguy. I figured someone out there might have something similar. I agree with you Kevin that the selling price is actually a decent deal. Unfortunately, it's just too much for my budget. I would love to have it hanging on my wall though.

Salvage Sailor

This remembrance scroll is in excellent condition. Many that I have seen are sun faded and have worn over the years.
