sampo Posted October 18, 2017 Share #1 Posted October 18, 2017 Hello, I just could not withhold these pictures I ran into. It is a medal parade at the Dutch UN troops area where some servicemen and women receive the Dutch Cross for Justice and Freedom and the UN Special Service medal for Korea. The American 1st Lt are identified as Beregger and Hickey, and the other two, actually wearing the Dutch cross for justice and freedom, one of them could be Hickey, the other one I do not know. Enjoy! If there are any other members willing to share foreign awards(South Korean military merit) to US servicemen please do so, I would be very interested! LuftStalg1 Posted October 18, 2017 Share #2 Posted October 18, 2017 I had to look it up to see what I was looking at because I couldn't make sense of the photo. The folded ribbon got me. Pretty cool, thanks for sharing.
Captainofthe7th Posted October 18, 2017 Share #3 Posted October 18, 2017 Very interesting, Sampo, thanks for sharing and good find. Since you asked, here is some documentation for recipients of the French Croix de Guerre (ToE). This is a paper group belonging to Wayne Stevens. He was awarded the Silver Star twice in WWII with the 29th Division (121st Engineers) and received the Bronze Star and CdG ToE in Korea.

Captainofthe7th Posted October 18, 2017 Share #8 Posted October 18, 2017 Here's a citation for an award of the Ulchi Medal to Col. Frederick Henderson, CO of the 11th Marines in 1952. He wears the ribbon on his uniform: http://www.rcmcollection.com/henderson
Captainofthe7th Posted October 18, 2017 Share #9 Posted October 18, 2017 I find the foreign awards to U.S. personnel in Korea is a very interesting topic. I know 1st Cav and 3d Div received a lot of Greek Crosses for Valor. Offhand I don't recall many other awards like these...Thai, Turkish, Ethiopian, Columbian...the list goes on. It's been awhile since i've browsed here, but you might find something of interest: http://gmic.co.uk/topic/56543-the-korean-war-is-not-forgotten/ Rob

Captainofthe7th Posted October 18, 2017 Share #15 Posted October 18, 2017 Those orders are great! I'm going to save them. Unfortunately, I do not have Henderson's medals, only the uniform. I do have a 500+ page interview with him. He was a really interesting officer and took a lot of care in his duties throughout his career, but especially in Korea, so I think the Korean award is well deserved and the citation reads well to his character. It does have typical verbiage of many citations, but it speaks truth. Rob
