In The Streets of Hue

Hello,

I took a page out of Dennis' "picture of inspiration" idea. I built this M48 about 20 years ago and put it in a diorama. But I wasn't completely happy with that dio, since most of the figures used had to be altered from WWII Tamiya figures. So I found a picture of an M48 in Hue; that I'll post later; and I decided to weather and dirty up my tank and add a couple of things, bought a tank commander from Bravo6 models (I haven't added him yet). So I want to post a couple of pics. I still have to add an antenna and fix the other and finish the base and add the figures. As always all comments and critiques are greatly appreciated.

"Panzer-Hurra!" That's a great model, you did a superb paintjob & excellent weathering. Manny, this scan - taken from a 9th ID VN yearbook - is for you!

One thing for sure I forgot how hard it was to work with 1/35 scale barbed wire. Real barbed wire was bad enough without getting cut or caught.

I'm also posting the picture that was my inspiration for this diorama. I'm not making a cart, instead I'm putting in a bicycle and the figures with accessories and that should do it.

Whenever I see a Vietnam era Patton I remember the images I saw as a kid of the bodies piled up on them as the only way to retrieve some of the dead GIs was behind a tank. I believe it was Hue

Driver, not only the dead GI's but a lot of times the wounded. And yes it was in Hue.

I went looking after I posted and found images from both Hue and Con Thien where they were loading the dead on tanks. heartbreaking :(

Hey Driver,

This is one of the most famous pics from Vietnam in which wounded were taken out on a M-48 in Hue. I believed it appeared in Life Magazine.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hello All;

Well I finally finished my small vignette. I like how it came out although there are some things I wish I could tweak or upgrade. But since I built this M48 about 20 years ago I had to settle with what I had. That is just the perfectionist in me and all of us model builders.

Well I added what I was going to add and left it at that. I hope you enjoy the pictures and as always any and all critiques and comments are greatly appreciated.

Great job Manny. The tank's weathering is perfect.

I second that, you did an awesome job, Manny! A blue (neutral) background works well with the dio but have you thought of experimenting with a VN scene/picture on a flatscreen in the background?
