Recently picked up this Hand Camo shirt which I really like , never owned one before so would like opinions on the camo and colour. Also is this a ww2 shirt , army or marine.

Thanks for opinions in advance

Looks like typical WW2 era Hbt shirt with pocket flaps removed. Can you tell if metal buttons have been removed or are the plastic original to it?

Not sure as with my brother but Im guessing it could have had metal buttons. Are you thinking marine core ?

This type of shirt would have been used through the early Vietnam period. Poplin fatigues took hbt's place in the early 50's but photo evidence shows mostly hbt in Korea and still being used early in 'Nam.

You know looking more closely this may be a late pattern ww2 shirt. I need to check to see if the 47 shirts had a bellowed pocket, when I get home tonight

Government Issue

May be mid WWII: Check out post #6 from Rambob in his thread on HBTs. Does anyone have anymore info on HBTs like this?

Nomenclature is in army format with the serial number in the collar. I can't see the Letter clearl but the S/N looks like 5110 in your third picture.

Nice pick up. I saw this on eBay, but you beat me to it. It'll go well with the army gaiters you got.

Posted camo shirt looks like a second patter with large pockets and no pleat.

As I recall the 47 pattern had the smaller squared off pockets and no pleats/bellows

Marines at times ended up with Army hbt clothing.I have an army pattern shirt with 4th Mar Div tac mark.

I have been looking at the 47 pattern and this one has larger pockets

Thanks for the input. Please let me know what you find later

Here is a 1947 HBT shirt , notice the pocket is smaller and rounded. Also the pocket only comes to the 2nd button.

Mine comes all the way down to the third with larger pockets and squared off edges

Yes that's a 47 type pattern with clipped corner pockets. and there was an earlier one from 45 as I recall too in HBT.

The pockets are big enough to resemble the WWII 2nd pattern fatigue shirt, however i have never come across an example with plastic buttons, all of the examples I have seen have the 13 star metal buttons. The jacket in the link provided by Cap Camouflage Pattern I also looks like a 2nd pattern fatigue shirt with different buttons. I'm wondering if it was camouflaged and used in the war maybe the buttons were replaced for some reason after the war, or perhaps this is another version of the 2nd pattern fatigue shirt. I know these shirts were used post war so maybe they were produced with different buttons. Just my two cents, but this is an Interesting piece that raises some questions
