ocsfollowme Posted October 4, 2017 Share #1 Posted October 4, 2017 I just started watching this tv show with my wife and we watched the episode that sported this image last night. Ugh. The story line is that he is an NCO, two tours (Afghanistan was the only one highlighted) and that he was an irrigation specialist. I was the S2 of the 25th BSB and we had 92Ws and I can tell you that they would have been in the Distribution Company (DC) and would not have worn an infantry collar disc. Maybe he re-classed........but be infantry first and not have a CIB but wear the CAB....and his expert award is folded over. He does have E-5 stripes on the uniform. Just 1 or 2 things wrong with the uniform, right?

cutiger83 Posted October 4, 2017 Share #4 Posted October 4, 2017 They make these tv shows / movies for the other 99.9% of the world who aren't military collectors / historians who just watch for entertainment. Exactly, They aren't going to waste the money on a military consultant for one uniform in one scene when 99.9% of the people watching would not know the difference. This is why it is called entertainment and not a documentary.
huntssurplus Posted October 4, 2017 Share #5 Posted October 4, 2017 Yeah I agree with the above statements no point in wasting money for one scene, it is fun though to point out inaccuricies in my opinion. Hunt
ocsfollowme Posted October 4, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted October 4, 2017 Very true. About a year ago I had a crazy assortment of girl scout brownie insignia that was from 20 lots of militaria patches that I had purchased on sale on ebay over the years. Even though I do not collect those I knew that the assortment had a time period of 40 years from the oldest to newest. The buyer was adamant about me overnighting them to the studio as they were going to be in a tv/movie scene that week. I am sure the Girl Scouts have a thread on a forum such as this with collectors rolling their eyes at their portrayal in film. As huntssurplus stated it is fun to point out their inaccuracies though
kammo-man Posted October 4, 2017 Share #7 Posted October 4, 2017 A show like this will rent the uniform from a costume house already badged up. The pages from the script will be sent to the costume house and the director will say make him a .................... rank so and so. The costume house will them have its military dept pull the uniform and badge it and ship it to the production. Simple as that. Mistakes happen however the guy who badged up the costume because thats what it is may NOT be up to speed on current regs. Uniform is returned to rental costume house. Invoice is payed. owen
Bugme Posted October 4, 2017 Share #8 Posted October 4, 2017 They make these tv shows / movies for the other 99.9% of the world who aren't military collectors / historians who just watch for entertainment. My wife tells me I ruin shows whenever I start picking stuff apart. So, I am to now keep my "nitpicking" to myself.
mikie Posted October 4, 2017 Share #9 Posted October 4, 2017 Here is a way to make it fun for you...pretend that they make these errors on purpose as a test for military collectors. Then, when you spot errors, it will make you happy, not mad. Have her give you a cookie or something for each error you find. Enjoy! Mikie

kammo-man Posted October 5, 2017 Share #11 Posted October 5, 2017 I have seen actors move badges in their dressing rooms because they don't like how they look AFTER they have been approved in a fitting. Most actors never served FYI. But like candy.
