Thurman Posted September 22, 2017 Share #1 Posted September 22, 2017 Anthony James, of Miller Place, passed away September 18, 2017 at 93 years old. Anthony was a highly decorated WWII Paratrooper of the 82nd Airborne Division, 505th PIR. He was the recipient of; Silver Star Medal, 2 Bronze Medals, 5 Purple Hearts, Presidential Unit Citations, Knight of the Legion of Honor and numerous other European Honors. A true American Hero of the greatest generation. Fought in six major campaigns, performed seven river crossings and performed all 4 combat jumps of WWII. He had the privilege of fighting alongside General (slim Jim) Gavin who personally decorated him. His stories have been shared with family and others through books and television documentaries.
