jeffs1130 Posted September 21, 2017 Share #1 Posted September 21, 2017 Not sure on this one! It is silver, so I was thinking a General's star? But I know the Navy also uses a star insignia, just never seen a screw back General's star... Comments would be appreciated! Thanks! Jeff
Allan H. Posted September 21, 2017 Share #2 Posted September 21, 2017 I believe that this is a general's star from the WWII era. This pattern is typically smaller than the standard sized rank star. Nice find! Allan
KurtA Posted September 21, 2017 Share #3 Posted September 21, 2017 With the "rope/line" in the middle, it more resembles a USN Line Officer star. But, it may be mimicking how a bullion general star is manufactured, so I'm thinking Allan is correct.
firefighter Posted September 22, 2017 Share #4 Posted September 22, 2017 For some reason I thought these were Italian.
Maj. McRoy Posted September 22, 2017 Share #5 Posted September 22, 2017 I"m certainly no expert, but I thought the US General's star is smooth with no decoration? Any I've seen appear to be plain. My hunch is it is foreign not US.
Justin B. Posted September 22, 2017 Share #6 Posted September 22, 2017 I agree with non-US. All the Army general stars with a false embroidery pattern that I have seen have the lines in V's pointing to the center, not across the rays like this one. Also the hollowed back and screw don't look right for US. Where it is from, that is tough. A lot of countries use five-point stars.
jeffs1130 Posted September 22, 2017 Author Share #7 Posted September 22, 2017 Appreciate all the comments, but I still believe strongly the star above is US. The screw back & post are identical to other US insignia of the time period. One would expect a different setup if foreign... As for General stars being smooth, well that's not always true! Especially in WWI they used a false embroidered pattern a lot. After all who is going to tell a General what he can and cannot wear?? Here is another pair I have:
