doyler Posted September 21, 2017 Share #1 Posted September 21, 2017 Case developed a machete for the Space Program and these were prodiced for sale to the public at one time.THese were discontinued in 1972 from a copied article I have. This came with a display case and is a numbered item.I dont see to many of these out there. Case produced a second model but it was called the NASA knife in the mid 1980s Has the shipping box, display case, blade guard which is numbered to the machete(#2430) and matches the machete. Nice item but a little out of my focus and thinking of moving it along.

sactroop Posted September 21, 2017 Share #5 Posted September 21, 2017 Were these coming out around the same time that Randall was pushing designs for the space program too?
doyler Posted September 23, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted September 23, 2017 Were these coming out around the same time that Randall was pushing designs for the space program too? Could be. I haven't ran across much information on the program.
m1ashooter Posted September 23, 2017 Share #7 Posted September 23, 2017 Very cool. Would have been a hard landing if they missed the water and had to hit land.

Frank Trzaska Posted September 23, 2017 Share #9 Posted September 23, 2017 In the early days they were not sure where they were going to land so all astronauts went through survival training in Panama among other places. The machete was part of the survival kit in the capsule. Pretty cool item, I have owned a few of the replicas through the years but never had the opportunity to get a real one. All the best Frank Trzaska

Spy vs Spy Posted April 17, 2018 Share #13 Posted April 17, 2018 Only heard of these, never had the pleasure of seeing one up front. Thanks for sharing this with us Ron. Sure is a cool piece. That astronauts survival training sounds though. Best Martin
